20-year event

In North Jutland, we fortunately escaped the worst part of the storm, but unfortunately we have another rare incident to report on.
Last week, a week before the due date, Bloksdal Rosabelle (Glasgow x Bloksdal Mirabelle -ET) started calving. Unfortunately, it turned out to be a so-called breech birth, which means that the calf was born rear first. We therefore had to get hold of the vet, who unfortunately could do nothing but get a dead heifer out. When this one was out we discovered another calf, a bull calf which unfortunately was also stillborn.
It was the second time within the last year that one of our zoo heifers had twins, this time unfortunately with a negative result. The calves were after VB Gustav.
Rosabelle was awarded the title of second best Charolais heifer at the national show in Herning in 2023, where the picture is from.

New calf

Bloksdal Pippi (Bloksdal Linux -ET V.B. x Bloksdal Holly V.B.) has had a bull calf.
The young cow gave birth on October 10 in the middle of the night. We took her in from grass in the evening when she was getting ready to calve and calving went quickly and she did it all herself.
This was Pippi’s third calf, which has all been born within the first 10 days of October. In addition, she is only inseminated once each time, so three doses of sperm have been used for the three calves.
The calf is by Utrillo BP (Major x Fatcha) and the calf will be called Bloksdal Utrillo named after his father. It weighed 45 kg at birth and is numbered 425.

Fantastic show for Bloksdal Charolais
As proclaimed, we participated this year with four catalog numbers and the first animal in the arena on Friday was Bloksdal Taurus (Neptune JC x Bloksdal Jelena). He won his group, young bulls 12-15 months, He was the youngest, but with the same weight (672 kg) as the oldest.
The next animal was Bloksdal Tur Beau (Neptune JC x Bloksdal Mirabelle -ET) in the young bull group 15-18 months. He was third in this. He was also the youngest and has been walking in the field by the cows. He weighed 724 kg.
After that it was Bloksdal Special Lady (Bloksdal Matador -ET V.B. x Bloksdal Milady). She won the heifer group 28-32 months with an impressive weight of 921 kg.
In conclusion, it was Bloksdal Opal (Cristal-DK x Bloksdal Hæmatit) and her calf Bloksdal Unika by Bloksdal Matador -ET V.B. turn to get into the arena. They were in the “cows over four years with calf”. It was a large and strong group, i.a. with the interbreed winner from the National Show this summer, but Opal, who weighed 1181 kg at the show, manages to win the group together with her calf, which weighed 286 kg.
Our three winners participated in the honorary prize competition. Here there were 16 animals and 10 honorary prizes to fight for. Here it went absolutely fantastic and all three animals managed to get an honorary prize and even make it into the top six.
Judge Jean-Marc Touillon awarded Bloksdal Special Lady the title of second best individual in the show and thereby also best female animal.
Bloksdal Opal and Bloksdal Unika got second best cow and received honorary prize number five.
Bloksdal Taurus was the second best young bull and received honorary prize number six. He is by the way for sale.
On Saturday, Bloksdal Special Lady was to represent Charolais at the interbreed competition.
There were 13 animals in the arena for the competition and she was judged to be among the three best. She unfortunately did not win, as she was overtaken by a Grauvieh cow with calf, but we are very proud of the shared second place, i.a. because Special Lady is of own breeding, on both the mother’s and father’s side.
Finally, we would like to thank TM enterprice, Denmark’s Charolais Association and Nordea for the honorary prizes, as well as say thank you to everyone who helped make the days at this year’s Kimbrerskue some good days, we at Bloksdal Charolais have at least enjoyed all the days in Aars. A special thank you to the people who helped us during this year’s show. We would like to congratulate everyone on their prizes and placings.

Hoof trimming

We have had a visit from our regular hoof trimmer. The animals for the upcoming Kimbrerskuet on 6-7 October 23 in Aars, everyone got a turn in the box and is now completely ready for the show.
Thank you for always good service and treatment at Fjellerad Hoof trimming by Palle Christiansen.

Last show for this year

Yesterday was the last registration for this year’s Kimbrerskuet, which will be held on 6-7. October in Messecenter Vesthimmerland in Aars.

True to tradition, we exhibit at this show, where there is usually a large Charolais following with high quality animals.

This year we are exhibiting five animals (four catalog numbers). Two of the animals are regulars from this summer’s animal shows, but we also plan to exhibit one debutant and one that was last exhibited in 2019.

We are looking forward to some good days with friends and colleagues for the last animal show of the year.

Very beautiful

We got a really exciting calf on Sunday 13 August 23.

The calf is by our best cow Bloksdal Mirabelle -ET (Vaillant x Anabelle) and the top French bull Glasgow (Apache x Dentelle). The calf, which is a heifer calf, is therefore a full sister to Bloksdal Rosabelle, who was recently voted second best heifer at the recently held National Show.

We are therefore very happy and excited to follow her development.

Mirabelle herself gave birth to the 54 kg calf on the field without any problems and was subsequently taken to the barn.

The calf will be called UltraBelle, which in French means “very beautiful” and will be numbered 424.

Successful barbecue event

Yesterday we had a little over 100 guests visiting for a nice get-together and talk about beef cattle. We showed off our farm and herd and told about our daily life with the animals. We had a lovely evening where we could tell a little about our family and passion for Charolais and hopefully pass on some inspiration to the many present. While some saw and talked about beef cattle, others were on a garden walk at Skovhuset Skråvej in Ferslev.

The organizers were the Beef Cattle Association Himmerland, while the food came from Madgården Arden and DLG sponsored beer/water.

Thanks to all sponsors, organizers and participants for a pleasant evening.
