Home from the show “Kimbrerskuet 2019”

We are now home again frome this year’s last show, Kimbrerskuet 2019 in Messecenter Vesthimmerland, Aars. We had all three animals on the show, which for Charolais started last Friday.

The first animal to be judge by judged Søren Hauge was for us, Bloksdal Matador -ET VB (Vaillant x Anabelle). He finished second in his group with 22 points. The next animal in the ring was Bloksdal Olana (Bloksdal Linux -ET V.B. x Bloksdal Jelana). She was in a large group with eight registered heifers. Olana was placed in the middle of the group in a 4th place with 23 points in a strong group of heifers. Last animal in the ring was Bloksdal Opal (Cristal-DK x Bloksdal Hæmatit). She was in a group with five registered heifers. Here, she was placed in 2nd place with 23 points and would later participate in the honorary prize competition. Here the 59 registered animals were shaved down to 17 competing animals, and these 17 were further reduced to 10 premium animals. Among these 10, our heifer was Bloksdal Opal, and we received an honorary award from Danish Crown.

Finally, we would like to thank everyone who helped make the days at Kimbrerskuet some good days, and we congratulate everyone on their awards and placements. A special congratulations to the Charolais race, who did well in Saturday’s cross competitions, with the other breeds. Special congratulations to Kristensen I / S, Agerskov, and Jan Larsen, Hansesgaard Charolais.

Catalog for the show, Kimbrerskuet 2019

The catalog has just arrived for the upcoming show, Kimbrerskuet. As mentioned earlier, we have chosen this year to participate with three catalog numbers. See them and the other participating animals via the following link.

Otherwise we will see in the exhibition center Vesthimmerland, Aars on 4-5 October 2019.

Autumn fieldwork is over

Despite the heavy rainfall (130 mm in dd in September), we have over the last 14 days successfully completed the autumn fieldwork, so we have now finished mucking out, plowing, harrowing of the 8.5 ha wheat.

Thanks for helping Gregers Jensen, Oppelstrup.

Hoof trimming

Today we have the chance to hoof trim several of the animals that will be joining the upcoming show, Kimbrerskuet.

  • Bloksdal Matador -ET V.B. (Vaillant x Anabelle).
  • Bloksdal Opal (Cristal-DK x Bloksdal Hæmatit).

Plus Martin’s 13 year old cow, who does not go to show.

  • Bloksdal Bailey (Vainqueur x Bloksdal Unak -ET).

Thanks to Fjellerad Klovbeskæring at Palle Christiansen for always good service and treatment.

Heavy rain

Due to the heavy rain we again had to move the animals from one field to another this weekend.

We currently have about 100 mm of rain in September and therefore we do not expect to get more wrap engilage in the wet fields.

Fortunately, the animals are calm and eventually won to be moved around and happy to get on new grass.

Harvest 2019

Just over a week ago, the harvest was finally over for us and we now have the last weights and figures for this year’s 2019 harvest.

  • Barley 5000 kg per ha.
  • Wheat 7500 kg per ha.
  • Rapeseed 4500 kg per hectare with high oil content.

This year we have collected just under 200 mini big, which should be enough for the whole year, together with the 145 Morten Korch balls we have also made. We also have some straw left over from last year.

Big thanks for helping with this year’s harvest to Egehøj Agro, Holger Jensen, Arne Thomsen and Ole Sand.

New and improved website

The heavy rain in late summer resulted in several hours indoors. Martin has spent that time servicing our foreign followers by translating large parts of our website www.BLOKSDAL.dk into English, French and German.

Hope you will enjoy it and visit our new improved website

Visit by Charolai’s interested people

Yesterday we had a visit from the Vestjysk Charolais Association, which this year held their yearly summer event on our farm.

Around 25 attended the event, which started with a tour at Lille Vildmose. Then we drove around two of our fields and saw our animals and ended up here and saw the last animals at the farm.

We ended the day with dinner on the terrace.

A really good day. We always enjoy having visits and visitors are always welcome with us.

The National Show 2019

The national show in Herning is now over. It has been a good week, despite the very unstable weather with both sun, rain and much wind.

We exhibited three catalog numbers this year. The first animal in the ring to be judged by French judge David Riviere was Bloksdal Matador -ET V.B. (Vaillant x Anabelle). He weighed 1143 kg at the show. Matador finished second in the group and scored 22 points. A tough start for our lovely bull.

Next in line was Bloksdal Opal (Cristal-DK x Bloksdal Hæmatit). She weighed 683 kg and finished fourth with 22 points in a large group of fantastic heifers.

Last was Bloksdal Mirabelle – ET (Vaillant x Anabelle), who weighed 907 kg. She was a little disappointing at number three, in the group with extraordinarily good heifers. However, she was given 23 points and would later take part in the honorary prize competition. Here, 23 Charolai’s animals were shaved down to eleven prize animals. Despite her third place in the group, Mirabelle was placed as a beautiful number nine, which earned an honorary prize from J Hundahl in Thisted. This was the fifth honorary award at the National Show within the last five years, with four different animals. Which we are very proud of and suggest our breeding work goes really well.

On Friday, Anders and Martin participated in the Danish Championship in mustering. They both did really well, with Anders in the top ten and Martin in the top five.

Finally, we would like to thank everyone who helped make the days at the national show very good days, we at Bloksdal Charolais have at least enjoyed all the days in Herning. We would like to congratulate everyone on their awards and placements.

REMEMBER that on our facebook page you can view or review the rating, the honorary prize competition and the auction. The pictures from the show are available here on the website under “photo albums”.
