2024 is fast approaching. Here at Bloksdal, we would like to look back at the year 2023 and come up with a small report about it.

This year we participated in three shows and received five honorary prizes. The honorary prizes have been awarded to these five different animals, which we are very proud of and says something about the quality of our herd:

• Bloksdal Mirabelle -ET (Vaillant x Anabelle)
• Bloksdal Rosabelle (Glasgow x Bloksdal Mirabelle -ET)
• Bloksdal Taurus (Neptune JC x Bloksdal Jelena)
• Bloksdal Special Lady (Bloksdal Matador -ET V.B. x Bloksdal Milady)
• Bloksdal Opal (Cristal-DK x Bloksdal Hæmatit) with calf by Bloksdal Matador -ET V.B. (Vaillant x Anabelle)

First prize was awarded at the local show in Hjørring in June, where Mirabelle received prize. The next show was the National Show at the beginning of July in Herning. Here it also went well for the herd, best of all for the daughter of Mirabelle and Glasgow (Bloksdal Rosabelle), who was placed overall as number five and second best heifer at the show. Finally, there was the show called “Kimbrerskuet” in October, where Taurus, Opal and Special Lady all received an honorary award. The best went for Special Lady, who also won the predicate best female at the show.

In addition to shows, we have sold quite a few animals both for slaughter and for living. We have sold six animals on for live use, while we have slaughtered six animals. We would like to thank both purchasers of meat, which have been bought privately directly from slaughterhouses, as well as buyers of live animals.

This year we have had 13 calves from 12 calvings. We still want to slim down our herd and therefore regularly have animals for sale, which is why interested parties and visitors are always welcome.

In the past year, we have held two open houses with a total of over 125 visitors. We plan to hold another open house together with Dansk Kødkvæg first in the new year (on 6 January 24 at 10-16 ed.), where visitors are welcome.

At the time of writing, we have over 700 followers on Instagram and 2000 on Facebook. We are happy and proud that you will follow our work with the beautiful white animals.

In conclusion, we would like to say thank you to all the other guests and visitors we have had here at the farm, but also people we have met around at various shows and in other connections.

A week ago we posted on the social media about a cow and calf. The cow and calf are Bloksdal Sallé Star (Bloksdal Matador -ET V.B. x Bloksdal Olympia) with her heifer calf Bloksdal Unique Star by Sapristi (Laurel x Nature), we wanted to sell this set. After several inquiries from interested buyers, we can now say that she has been sold to Casper Poulsen from Frederikshavn. We hope that Sallé, Unique and Casper will be a good match, wish you luck and thank you for the deal.

In recent times we have had quite a few new calves, and on Monday another one arrived, the last of the year. This time it was Bloksdal Sallé Star (Bloksdal Matador -ET V.B. x Bloksdal Olympia) that had a calf. Sallé Star is a medium-sized cow but with a good breed character and an exciting pedigree, with for example Bloksdal Linux -ET V.B (Bourgogne x Une Fleur) as grandsire. Both Linux and Matador are embryo purchases from Elevage Sallé charolais and both have proven their worth by breeding several winners for us.

Sallé Star herself gave birth to the 32 kg heifer calf easily and without help. The calf is by Sapristi (Laurel x Nature) and will be called Unique Star and got number 431.

Last week we got another new calf. This time it was Piña Colada (Bloksdal Linux -ET V.B. x Bloksdal Liqueur) that had a calf. Piña Colada is a young cow from 2019 that has already experienced a lot. Last time she had twins, Thor and Tuborg, which she looked after beautifully herself and back in 2022 she became best heifer at the National Show in Herning.

This time she has had a single calf by the famous Major (Berlioz x Charmille). She gave birth to the calf, a bull calf weighing 52 kg. Kristina has decided that it should be called Bloksdal Underberg V.B. (430)

We have today delivered Bloksdal Tarzan P (Iceberg PP x Bloksdal Miva) to his new owner Christian Hoeck in Southern Denmark.

Miva has previously bred good polled bull calves, for example Bloksdal Ronaldo P (by Japon Sc), who won the title of best young bull at the Kimbrerskuet in 2021.

Tarzan is after a homozygous polled bull from France, named Iceberg PP. He should breed a good temperament and some easy calvings. The temperament is fine, so we hope that Christian and Tarzan will be a good match, wish them luck and say thank you for the deal. We still have few breeding animals left for sale. We have sold Bloksdal Tuborg P V.B. (Gustav av Skalltorp x Bloksdal Piña Colada). He has been sold to Hans Thomsen, Læsø.
Tuborg is a very calm polled bull with an exciting future. His father has produced some easy-born and fast-growing calves, while his mother has a lot of French blood in her veins and among other things. has won the predicate Denmark’s best heifer in 2021.
We hope that Hans and Tuborg will be a good match, wish them luck and say thank you for the deal.

The sudden onset of cold weather in Denmark has naturally meant that we have had to take all the animals inside.. This is approximately one month earlier than we have done in recent years. Fortunately, we should have enough feed and bedding for the spring.

Last Saturday we finally got a heifer calf after the last four have been bull calves.
It was Bloksdal Jelana (Utrillo-BP x Bloksdal Elana -ET) who easily gave birth to her calf number eight all by herself.
The calf is by Heracles (Royal Excelent x Demoiselle). It weighed 48 kg at birth, will be numbered 429 and will be called Bloksdal Ulana.

Friday we got the third polled bull calf in a row. Bloksdal Miva (Bloksdal Juvel x Bloksdal Diva) has now also had three polled bull calves. She gave birth to the third on this Friday. The previous two have both been sold on for breeding. This polled calf is by Nobel PP (Indou PP x Jamba). The calving of the 52 kg calf was very quick and easy, so we could watch Denmark’s national football team qualify for the European Championships in Germany 24. This tournament is organized by UEFA and we therefore think it was natural that it also became the calf’s name . Bloksdal Uefa P gets number 428.

Denmark’s Charolais Association has today held Charolais Day on our farm. There were around 30 registered, so it’s great that people want to support and participate in such an event. The day started with breakfast at 10, after which we told and showed off our herd. At the end, there were sandwiches and a report from the association.
