When “THANKS” is just a poor word and what a great way to start the year 2020. Last week we rounded 1500 “likes” on Facebook while wee a few weeks ago rounded 500 followers on Instagram.
We enjoy working with the animals and love to share both the ups and downs regarding these amazing white animals.
Thank you all so much.

Bull rental
Bloksdal Linux -ET V.B. (Bourgogne x Une Fleur) has been picked up this evening. We have rented him out for a few months to Lars Thomsen, Frederikshavn.
Lars has a larger herd with Charolais and Galloway and was missing a bull fore a few months. This harmonized well compared to the fact that we had difficulty housing two large bulls in the upcoming time.
For a long time Linux has been one of the best bulls in Denmark in terms of various indexes – he is very positive for calving and milk, among many other things.
In the coming months we will therefore inseminate more of our female animals, while our other stock bull Bloksdal Matador -ET V.B. (Vaillant x Anabelle) will inseminate the rest of the female animals.

Bloksdal has got a Rolls Royce
Today we got this year’s first new calf. This time it was Bloksdal Mercedes P (Uvejr Av Strömsnäs x Bloksdal Elana -ET) who gave birth to a polled bull calf. The calf is after our stockbull bull Bloksdal Linux -ET (Bourgogne x Une Fleur) and weighed about 50 kg. The calf gets number 387 and is called Bloksdal Rolls Royce P.

The Year Passed (2019)
2020 is fast approaching. We here at Bloksdal would like to look back on the year 2019 and make a small report on this. This year we have attended three shows and received three honorary prize. The honors was awarded to Bloksdal Mirabelle -ET (Vaillant x Anabelle) and Bloksdal Opal (Cristal-DK x Bloksdal Hæmatit).
The first honorary prize was awarded at the show in Hjørring in the month of June, when Mirabelle was awarded the prize for best Charolais animals with 24 points. The next show was at the beginning of July in Herning. Here it also went very well for the herd, best again for Mirabelle who got a total number 9 in the National Show 2019. Finally, there was the show called, Kimbrerskuet in the month of October where Opal received the honorary prize.
In addition to shows, we have sold a lot of animals for slaughter and for livelihood. We have sold 3 young bulls as well as one heifer for living, while we have slaughtered 14 different other animals.
This year we have had 15 calves on 13 calves, giving us 2 sets of twins. We still want to slim down our herd and therefore we have always animals for sale, which is why interested people and visitors are always welcome.
We would like to thank both buyers of meat and buyers of live animals, thanks you. Finally, we would like to thank all the guests and visitors we have had here at the farm, but also people we have met around on various shows and in other connections. We all wish you a Happy New Year.

Nobel Prize to Bloksdal Charolais
Yesterday we got the last calf of the year. Martin’s heifer, Bloksdal Nobel (Vanggaard Daddy -ET x Bloksdal Champion), became a cow.
Unfortunately, this was not without problems, as the calf was both born back and lay on its back. We therefore contacted the Veterinarians Himmerland, who sent Torben Bennedsgaard, and together we succeeded in getting a live Lorsini heifer calf of about 40 kg behind.
Martin has decided that the calf should be called Bloksdal Price (386). That’s how Bloksdal Charolais got its own Nobel Prize

The gate is opened
Today we have opened the gate, so the animals can now go in and out of the barn. At the same time we weaned some calves from their mother. These calves are now tied up in another barn over the winter. This means a little work for our regular cattle mower, Kristina. Fortunately, both she and the calves enjoy her work.

Successful rating of the herd
Last Friday we had Inspector Torben Andersen to visit our herd. He should rate the animals that were not previously rated, which was a bull and seven cows – thus all the animals in our herd are now rated. Today’s result in averaged was 85,7 and we have no below 82,0 on average. The national average is 80,0 so we are proud of this result. All of our animals are pure-bred Charolais with average S-index of 107, with an average of 100. Over the past 12 months we have had 1.2 calves per year per cow-year. This is also pretty good as the breed average is 0.9 calves per year. So the conclusion is that Bloksdal Charolais is doing pretty well. It’s nice, it’s not just the few animals we bring to animal show that are successful. But that whole herd in general is doing well and are over average.
