Last Saturday we finally got a heifer calf after the last four have been bull calves.
It was Bloksdal Jelana (Utrillo-BP x Bloksdal Elana -ET) who easily gave birth to her calf number eight all by herself.
The calf is by Heracles (Royal Excelent x Demoiselle). It weighed 48 kg at birth, will be numbered 429 and will be called Bloksdal Ulana.

Friday we got the third polled bull calf in a row. Bloksdal Miva (Bloksdal Juvel x Bloksdal Diva) has now also had three polled bull calves. She gave birth to the third on this Friday. The previous two have both been sold on for breeding. This polled calf is by Nobel PP (Indou PP x Jamba). The calving of the 52 kg calf was very quick and easy, so we could watch Denmark’s national football team qualify for the European Championships in Germany 24. This tournament is organized by UEFA and we therefore think it was natural that it also became the calf’s name . Bloksdal Uefa P gets number 428.

Denmark’s Charolais Association has today held Charolais Day on our farm. There were around 30 registered, so it’s great that people want to support and participate in such an event. The day started with breakfast at 10, after which we told and showed off our herd. At the end, there were sandwiches and a report from the association.

We have another new calf. This time it was the oldest of the herd, Iris de Bat, which Kristina bought many years ago from Carsten Kjærgaard.

Iris de Bat (Ecrin de Bat x Celeste de Bat) is almost 11 years old and had her ninth calf on Friday. This calf is by Uvejr Av Strömsnäs (J Ecuter X Orkan Av Tostarp -ET) and weighed 58 kg at birth. It will be numbered 427 and will be called Bloksdal Uvejr P V.B.

Bloksdal Superb P (Bloksdal Matador -ET V.B. x Bloksdal Mercedes P) has got Bloksdal Up P.

The calf, which is a polled bull calf by Lorsini, was born yesterday and the mother managed the task all by herself. The calf weighs 40 kg and is numbered 426

We currently have several exciting Charolais animals for sale. The items for sale range widely from bulls after Neptune JC (I Love You x Fabtazia) who in 2019 won the title of Champion in Paris. On the mother’s side of these there are i.a. the bull as Major, Vaillant and Turbo.
In addition, a full brother to our top heifer Bloksdal Special Lady (Bloksdal Matador -ET V.B. x Bloksdal MiLady) who has won several honorary prizes in recent years and was recently named best female animal at the Kimbrerskuet 2023.
In addition to these, we also have a few polled bulls, e.g. Gustav av Skalltorp and Bloksdal Piña Colada. Gustav is a Swedish polled bull with easy calving and Piña Colada won the title of Denmark’s best Charolais heifer at the Landsskuet in 2022. We also have a French polled calf by Iceberg PP and Bloksdal Miva, which is worth highlighting. Miva is, among other things, mother of Bloksdal Ronaldo P, who in 2021 won the title, show best young bull at the Kimbrerskuet.
We have also found a few females after i.a. Bloksdal Linux -ET (Bourgogne x Une Fleur), Cristal-DK (Romeo x Tulipe) and Bloksdal Matador -ET V.B. (Vaillant x Anabelle).

In North Jutland, we fortunately escaped the worst part of the storm, but unfortunately we have another rare incident to report on.
Last week, a week before the due date, Bloksdal Rosabelle (Glasgow x Bloksdal Mirabelle -ET) started calving. Unfortunately, it turned out to be a so-called breech birth, which means that the calf was born rear first. We therefore had to get hold of the vet, who unfortunately could do nothing but get a dead heifer out. When this one was out we discovered another calf, a bull calf which unfortunately was also stillborn.
It was the second time within the last year that one of our zoo heifers had twins, this time unfortunately with a negative result. The calves were after VB Gustav.
Rosabelle was awarded the title of second best Charolais heifer at the national show in Herning in 2023, where the picture is from.

Bloksdal Pippi (Bloksdal Linux -ET V.B. x Bloksdal Holly V.B.) has had a bull calf.
The young cow gave birth on October 10 in the middle of the night. We took her in from grass in the evening when she was getting ready to calve and calving went quickly and she did it all herself.
This was Pippi’s third calf, which has all been born within the first 10 days of October. In addition, she is only inseminated once each time, so three doses of sperm have been used for the three calves.
The calf is by Utrillo BP (Major x Fatcha) and the calf will be called Bloksdal Utrillo named after his father. It weighed 45 kg at birth and is numbered 425.
