Catalog for the National Show

The official catalog for next week’s National Show in Herning has arrived today and we can therefore reveal which animals we are participating with this year.
We participate with both Bloksdal Rosabelle (Glasgow x Bloksdal Mirabelle -ET) and Bloksdal Special Lady (Bloksdal Matador -ET V.B. x Bloksdal MiLady), who both won their group at the recently concluded the local show in Hjørring and participated in the honorary prize competition.
Last but not least, we exhibit Bloksdal Piña Colada (Bloksdal Linux -ET V.B. x Bloksdal Liqueur), which was last exhibited in Aars at Kimbrerskuet, where she won her group and participated in the honorary prize competition.
In other words, it is three heifers in top form that have proven their worth in the past, which we are exhibiting at this year’s national show.

Home from show in Hjørring 2022

We are now home and well from a good show in Hjørring 2022. It was nice to finally be away again, on top of two years of closure with corona. As we announced earlier this week, we participated with three catalog numbers.
The first animal was Bloksdal MiLady (Vanggaard Daddy -ET x Bloksdal Unak -ET). She was in a group with another really good cow without a calf, which was hard to keep up with as MiLady had her one and a half old heifer calf with her. She was therefore placed in second with 22 points.
Our next animal was Bloksdal Rosabelle (Glasgow x Bloksdal Mirabelle -ET). She was in a group with three other good heifers. She won the group and got 23 points and was later to participate in the honorary prize competition. The last animal was Bloksdal Special Lady (Bloksdal Matador – ET V.B. x Bloksdal MiLady). She was alone in her group but got extremely positive publicity and therefore also got 23 points. Which also meant that she had to participate in the honorary prize competition.
In this participated 14 animals and Bloksdal Rosabelle finished in the top eight, while Bloksdal Special Lady finished in the top 3. She was even upgraded to the maximum 24 points.
All in all, a great local show for our family and herd. Now we look forward with great excitement to the upcoming National Show in Herning.

In conclusion, we would like to congratulate everyone on their prizes and placements and say thank you for honorary prizes to Danish Beef Cattle.

Animals on grass

This weekend we got to finish what we started last weekend; Getting animals on grass.
We now have all the animals in the meadow for the summer, except animals there are going fore shows, as well as bull calves and cows that are going to calve.

New family member

Tonight we got a new family member. Martin’s cow Bloksdal MiLady (Vanggaard Daddy -ET x Bloksdal Unak -ET), has given birth to a calf. MiLady has previously won several honorary awards at various shows and has been selected by the Charolais Association as a potential bull mother. We had therefore followed their recommendations and used a selected French bull on their choice. This in the hope of a potential bull calf with good indexes and exterior, which in the future can be used as an insemination bull. Unfortunately, it was not a bull calf, but a nice fresh heifer calf of 48 kg after Gaston (Robustin x Catalane), which MiLady enriched us with. The calf gets number 413 and will be named Triple Lady.

First animal on grass

We have now got the first animals on grass. These three heifers have come to graze in a newly established fold on the farm.
This coming weekend we will start taking more animals out. However, these must go down into the meadows around Ferslev.

Claw pruning

Tonight we have had a visit from our regular hoof trimmer, Fjellerad Hoof Trimmer by Palle Christiansen. All adult animals, except two highly pregnant cows, are now hoofed and ready to get on the meadow this coming weekend.

Breeding bull for sale

If you are missing a new breeding bull, continue reading this.

Bloksdal Charolais has this bull calf for sale. Bloksdal Red Bull (400).
Red Bull is from 19 / 12-20 after our current stockbull Bloksdal Matador -ET and Bloksdal Liqueur.
Matador, is the son of show winners in France (Vaillant x Anabelle from @pierreyvessalle), while his mother Liqueur (Vanggaard Daddy x Bloksdal Bailey) is show winners from Denmark.
In other words, the pedigree is top notch but also numbers and temperament are perfectly fine. He is very typical of the breed, has a good topline and meat composition.

Happy New Year

We from Bloksdal Charolais would like to wish you all a Happy New Year. 2021 was another year marked by Covid-19. Fortunately, everyday life with our animals is not affected by this. We managed to get to a show in 2021 where we exhibited five animals and all five participated in the honorary award competition. We won two honorary awards and the title “Best Young Bull”. In addition, it was great to see friends and colleagues again. During the year, we sold six animals for livestock – three bulls, two cows and a calf. We hope the animals are well in their new environment. After several years of talking about getting a little down in cow numbers, it finally succeeds this year – we are now down to 10 cows plus breeding. We have several exciting heifers on the road, so the future is assured. Two of our cows have been designated by the Danish Charolais Association to be bull mothers. We have got 1.1 calves per. year cow, the annual weights of our bull calves have been 633 kg, where the breed average is 619 kg. At the heifers the annual weight was 494 kg and the breed average was 467 kg. In conclusion, we would like to say thank you to all the guests and visitors that we have had here on the farm. We all wish you a Happy New Year.

Opal has calved

The last calf of the year was a proper clipper. Bloksdal Opal (Cristal-DK x Bloksdal Hæmatit) has calved this evening. The calf is a large strong and fresh bull calf after UtrilloMic (Senior x Ficelle) from Gaec Micaud. The calf weighed 64 kg at birth, must be named Bloksdal Swarovski and gets no. 412
