Happy New Year

We from Bloksdal Charolais would like to wish you all a Happy New Year. 2021 was another year marked by Covid-19. Fortunately, everyday life with our animals is not affected by this. We managed to get to a show in 2021 where we exhibited five animals and all five participated in the honorary award competition. We won two honorary awards and the title “Best Young Bull”. In addition, it was great to see friends and colleagues again. During the year, we sold six animals for livestock – three bulls, two cows and a calf. We hope the animals are well in their new environment. After several years of talking about getting a little down in cow numbers, it finally succeeds this year – we are now down to 10 cows plus breeding. We have several exciting heifers on the road, so the future is assured. Two of our cows have been designated by the Danish Charolais Association to be bull mothers. We have got 1.1 calves per. year cow, the annual weights of our bull calves have been 633 kg, where the breed average is 619 kg. At the heifers the annual weight was 494 kg and the breed average was 467 kg. In conclusion, we would like to say thank you to all the guests and visitors that we have had here on the farm. We all wish you a Happy New Year.

Opal has calved

The last calf of the year was a proper clipper. Bloksdal Opal (Cristal-DK x Bloksdal Hæmatit) has calved this evening. The calf is a large strong and fresh bull calf after UtrilloMic (Senior x Ficelle) from Gaec Micaud. The calf weighed 64 kg at birth, must be named Bloksdal Swarovski and gets no. 412

Bailey has been slaughtered

The herd’s oldest cow, Bloksdal Bailey, 15 years old, has been sent to slaughter to day.

She was on the father side after our former stockbull Vainqueur (Emir x Pascaline), which was a French imported bull we bought as a bullcalf by Elevage Clame Aubouard. On the mother side, she was after Bloksdal Unak -ET (Major x Pekoline Hedevang), which was an embryo we bought from Hans Topholt. Bailey had an amazing temperament and incredible breed character, she managed to get 12 live calves. In addition, she is mother of 3 ET calves.

In 2018, she was honored by Jean-Louis Riotte as breeding queen at the local show in Hjørring, just as she also previously has received an honorary award at the National Show in Herning.

Bailey was ultimately a large strong cow, as her carcass weight and classification of 511 kg and class 9 also testifies.

Sale of three breeding animals

Yesterday we got two cows and a calf from the haulier, which we have sold for further breeding. The first animal is a cow, Bloksdal Mercedes P (Uvejr Av Strömsnäs x Bloksdal Elana -ET). Mercedes’ father, Uvejr Av Strömsnäs, was in his time the best tested Danish / Swedish Charolais bull in relation to low feed consumption in Denmark. The mother, Elana, was a great show cow who has won honorary awards at several shows across the country. In addition to Mercedes, we have also sold Bloksdal Olana (Bloksdal Linux -ET V.B. x Bloksdal Jelena). Her father Linux, is an embryo that we bought at Elevage Salle Charolais and is after Bourgogne x Une Fleur, which were really good animals in Charolais ’motherland, France. For a long time, Linux was one of the best bulls in Denmark measured by various indices – he is, among other things, very positive about calving and milk. Jelana is a large cow that we plan to bring to shows in 2022. She is after the French bull Utrillo-BP and Bloksdal Elana -ET. Olana is sold with her polled heifer calf, Bloksdal Solana P next to it. The buyer of the three animals is Rene Andersen from Vejen, who also bought Bloksdal Roman (Bloksdal Matador -ET V.B. x Bloksdal MiLady) after the Kimbrerskuet in October. We hope that Mercedes, Olana and Solana as well as René will be a good match, wish good luck and say thank you for the deal.

Jelana has given birth to a calf

Today we have a got new calf. This time it was Bloksdal Jelana (Utrillo-BP x Bloksdal Elana -ET) who got calf. She gave birth to the 55 kg heifer calf herself. The father of the calf is the French bull Cristal-DK (Romeo x Tulipe) from Gaec Merlet. The calf will be number 410 and will be called Bloksdal Smarties

Third polled calf in one month

High on the result of the show we attended this weekend, we completely forgot to tell that we also got a new calf.
Kristina’s heifer, Bloksdal Pippi V.B. (Bloksdal Linux -ET V.B. x Bloksdal Holly V.B.), gave birth to a bull calf on Saturday night. The calf is after the Swedish polled bull, VB Gustav. The weighed 35 kg at birth gets number 409 and must be named Bloksdal Svend P.

Returned from a fantastic show in Aars.

The Kimbrerskuet 2021 was a great success for Bloksdal Charolais. We exhibited five catalog numbers. The first animal in the ring was Bloksdal Ronaldo P (Japon Sc x Bloksdal Miva). Ronaldo was in a team with three other good bulls, where he got good characterization from the French referee and got 23 points. The next animal in the ring was Bloksdal Roman (Bloksdal Matador -ET V.B. x Bloksdal MiLady). Roman is a different type of bull than Ronaldo, and the judge thinks he had a bit too rough limbs, but lots of meat in the right places. The next animal was the Bloksdal Rosabelle (Glasgow x Bloksdal Mirabelle -ET). She was in a large team with eight other amazing heifers. She ends up as threes in the team, but ran close between the top three. The next heifer was Bloksdal Piña Colada (Bloksdal Linux -ET V.B. x Bloksdal Liqueur). She was in a team with four other good heifers. She won the team and got 23 points. Finally, Bloksdal MiLady (Vanggaard Daddy -ET x Bloksdal Unak -ET) was in the ring with her calf Special Lady. She was in a team with two other cows with a calf and won her team with 23p. It therefore ended up that all our five exhibited catalog numbers were going to an honorary prize competition. Here it was pointed out from the morning that it was a new competition, and that there could therefore be good exchanges around the animals in relation to the assessment earlier in the day. For the honorary prize competition, it ends up that Bloksdal Ronaldo P is shown the fifth best animal and gets the title of the show’s best younger bull. In addition, Bloksdal MiLady and her calf Special Lady will be number eight and therefore also received an honorary award. Pina Colada and Rosabelle were placed as numbers 10 and 13. We chose to have both Roman and Ronaldo for sale and they were both sold. Congratulations and thanks for the deal to Rene Andersen in Vejen and Tommy Jensen in Havndal. All in all, a great weekend for us. It was great to come to the show again and meet good friends and colleagues. Bloksdal Charolais congratulates everyone on their prizes and rankings.

// The pictures we took at the show will hopefully be posted here on the page and on our facebook pages in the coming week. In the meantime, you can watch or re-watch our live broadcasts from the judging and the honorary prize competition on facebook.

New polled calf

Today we have another new polled heifer calf. This time the father was the French polled bull Japon Sc. The mother was Anders ’cow Bloksdal Miva (Bloksdal Juvel x Bloksdal Diva). Due to its high S-index of 123, Miva has been selected as a potential bull mother by the Danish Charolais Association. Among other things, she has the high S-index. gained by being an amazing mother, which she also turned out to be this time. She gave birth to the 54 kg calf herself without help. The calf was fresh and after a short time was even up to get milk. Anders has decided that the calf should be named Bloksdal Silvia P (408).

Polled calf

Today we got another new Bloksdal member. Bloksdal Olana (Bloksdal Linux -ET V.B. x Bloksdal Jelena) got a calf. Olana had calved herself when Karsten came out in the morning to feed. The calf is a polled heifer calf after Uvejr Av Strömsnäs and weighs 43 kg at birth. It will be no. 407 and will be called Bloksdal Solana P.

Hoof trimming

Yesterday we had a visit from our hoof pruner, Fjellerad Klovbeskæring by Palle Christiansen. We have pruned several of the animals that we will bring to the Kimbrerskuet as well as a few others that were not pruned in the spring.
