Purchase of new Charolais semen

This weekend we had a visit from Arne Godthaab Hansen. We had a really nice day, with a lot of good talk about Charolais. In addition to cozy togetherness, we also bought a little different Charolais semen. We therefore plan in the coming season to use the following Charolais bulls, in addition to our folding bull Bloksdal Matador -ET from Elevage Sallé charolais.

Cristal-DK – Gaec Merlet
Major – GAEC Cadoux
Utrillo-BP – Raymond A. & amp; J.C (58)
Heracles M – Gaec Micaud
UtrilloMic – Gaec Micaud
Japon Sc – Gaec Giraud
Iceberg PP – Earl Poyet David

Autumn update

The animals enjoy themselves on ryegrass. The majority of our herd continues to graze on the grass around the farm or at the neighbour. As the pictures show, it’s something they enjoy – which is reciprocated. It is great that the animals are closer and the possibility of daily contact is better. The animals that have come to the stable are primarily sexually mature bull calves and cows that need to calve.

20 years as an active breeding herd at Dansk Kødkvæg

It is with pride that we this week have received a diploma as proof that we have once again been awarded the title of active breeding herd. In fact, we have been this for the last 20 years. Herd is qualified for this through strengthened and targeted breeding work within the Charolais breed. Data is collected daily throughout the year, which is reported and that way makes us wiser about the breed. The concept that applies to all beef cattle breeds aims to stimulate the herds to use the genetically best bulls as well as activate the assessment work in addition to reporting weights at birth, 200 and 365 days for all born calves.

Finally a heifer calf

Tonight we finally got a heifer calf. It was Bloksdal Olana (Bloksdal Linux -ET V.B. x Bloksdal Jelana) who got her first calf. The 38 kg calf, which is a great-grandchild of the herd’s oldest animal Bloksdal Bailey (Vainqueur x Bloksdal Unak -ET), was born by Olana herself. Olana has participated in an animal show once at the Kimbrerskuet in 2019, where she got 23 points. The calf that is after Lorsini (Agronome x Instance), gets no. 398 and must be named Bloksdal Rolana.

Ninth bull calf in a row

The calving is going fast at the moment. Today another calf came and once again, it was a bull calf. In fact, this calf is the ninth bull calf in a row. This time it was our big show heifer Bloksdal Opal (Cristal-DK x Bloksdal Hæmatit) who got a calf. She gave birth to the calf easily and without problems. The calf is after the Lorsini (Agronome x Instance). He weighed 43 kg at birth and will be named Bloksdal Rubin (397).

Bright spots in everyday life

In an extra hard time for us and in particular the mink industry, there are still bright spots in everyday life. One of them came today. Here we got a bull calf in the middle of the Prime Minister’s press conference. Fortunately, Bloksdal Jelana (Utrillo-BP x Bloksdal Elana -ET) was able to give birth to the 57 kg bull calf himself. The calf is after Cristal-DK (Romeo x Tulipe). He gets number 396 and his name is Bloksdal Rambo.

The calving season has started

The best thing about this time of year is getting the animals home and when we start getting calves. We still have the animals walking outside – four of them in the meadow and otherwise the rest is distributed advantage between two pieces of ryegrass at home and with the neighbour.
Some of the animals have also come to the stable because they will soon be calving, and in fact we got this season’s first calf this Sunday.
It became a bull calf after the French polled bull Japon SC (Glaieul x Fraise) and Anders’ cow Bloksdal Miva (Bloksdal Juvel x Bloksdal Diva).
Miva herself gave birth to the large 55 kg bull calf. Anders has decided that his name will be Bloksdal Ronaldo P (395).

Two bull calves sold

This week we have sold two bull calves.
One is Bloksdal Pilou from October 9, 2019. He is after Cristal-Dk and Bloksdal Miva.
He has an impressive annual weight of 715 kg and should have been with us for the Kimbrerskuet. Instead, he has come up to Ib Christensen in Sæby, where he will be part of the breeding.
The other bull calf is Bloksdal Pondus. He is from 12 November 2019 and after Bloksdal Linux -ET V.B. and Bloksdal Jelana. His annual weight is 698 kg.
He has been sold to Mikkel Thorsen, Havndal, and will, like Pilou, be part of the breeding there.
We wish both buyers and bulls all the best and say thank you for the deal.

Kimbrerskuet 2020

As you know, the Kimbrerskuet, like so much else, was canceled this year due to the ongoing pandemic (COVID-19). We had looked forward to going to show once again, and spend time together as a family and with good animals and friends. But quite understandably, this show was, as you know, also canceled.

This year we had planned to exhibit 3 debutants;

Bloksdal Perle, 377 – 21 April 19.
Father: Bloksdal Matador -ET V.B.
Mother: Bloksdal Jæmatit -ET.

Bloksdal Pilou, 382 – October 9, 19.
Father: Cristal-DK.
Mother: Bloksdal Miva.

Bloksdal Piña Colada, 384 – November 7, 19.
Father: Bloksdal Linux -ET V.B.
Mother: Bloksdal Liqueur.

We are now instead looking forward to summer where we again hope to get to shows.

Our best cow

Today’s cow is also Anders’ and is presented on Karsten’s birthday.

Bloksdal Mirabelle -ET is from 3 December 2016 and has given birth to a single calf. She was purchased as an embryo at Elevage Salle Charolais. We bought three embryos and got three calves, which in addition to Mirabelle is our current fold bull Bloksdal Matador -ET.
Mirabelle belongs to Anders and is one of our best cows despite her young age.
She is after the famous French bull Vaillant (Port Royal x Nivea), while on the mother side she is after Anabelle (Major x Sylvette). In other words, there are top animals across the line, and several of them have won large shows in France.
Mirabelle has also already made herself positively noticed at the Danish shows, where she, among other things. has won the predicates; The show’s best heifer, best insemination heifer and the show’s best Charolais animals and achieved 24 points several times.
She is currently pregnant with Glasgow (Apache x Dentelle) and is due to calve by December.
